About Doug

I have moved over 35 times in my life, have lived in a dozen different countries, on four continents and, in the process, have learned six languages.  For most of my life, I have been “the new guy” – in a school, an office, a city, a culture.  I know the challenge of finding your footing in a new environment, as well as the opportunity it offers for reinventing yourself.  And I understand the critical importance of knowing the local culture, whether in a country or an organization, in communicating clearly and effectively.

I know cross-cultural communication.  I have lived it my whole life, and practiced it for most of my professional life, including 28 years as a diplomat, representing the United States.  I am applying those same skills to helping others who face a transition.  Maybe you are embarking on a new career, or changing jobs (and maybe cities or countries), or desperately looking for work.  I can help you present yourself persuasively, authentically, and with a résumé tailored to the job that interests you.

The National Resume Writers’ Association (The NRWA) is one of the most challenging in the industry. The only way a writer can earn the NCRW certification is by demonstrating a high level of expertise in resume strategy, business writing, grammar and punctuation, proofreading, and electronic resume preparation. Upon receiving their credential, NCRWs have proven themselves several times over to be the best in their field–a consummate professional dedicated to upholding the highest standards in the business. Subsequently, NCRWs are required to acquire CEs annually to maintain their certification which keeps them on the cutting edge of this ever-changing industry.

It certifies that the holder has attained “the highest standards and qualifications within the résumé  writing industry.” It is issued by the Executive Director of the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches, on the recommendation of the Certification Board, pursuant to successful completion of a rigorous examination process.
