I have moved over 35 times in my life, have lived in a dozen different countries, on four continents and, in the process, have learned six languages. For most of my life, I have been “the new guy” – in a school, an office, a city, a culture. I know the challenge of finding your footing in a new environment, as well as the opportunity it offers for reinventing yourself. And I understand the critical importance of knowing the local culture, whether in a country or an organization, in communicating clearly and effectively.
I know cross-cultural communication. I have lived it my whole life, and practiced it for most of my professional life, including 28 years as a diplomat, representing the United States. I am applying those same skills to helping others who face a transition. Maybe you are embarking on a new career, or changing jobs (and maybe cities or countries), or desperately looking for work. I can help you present yourself persuasively, authentically, and with a résumé tailored to the job that interests you.

I can’t say enough about Doug’s services. I was having some trouble getting results from my existing resume, so I hired Doug to help me revise, revamp and refresh my CV. Doug’s process of listening to his clients about their experiences and translating those experiences into action oriented descriptions really delivers results. After a long job search with my old CV, the first prospective employer I sent the new and improved Doug Barnes version to not only gave me an interview but hired me to a job I am extremely happy to have. I really give Doug a lot of credit for helping me to succeed in that endeavor.
“I have never worked with someone before on my resume other than friends or family, so a professional resume writer was new for me. Doug made it easy. He looked over my resume and then asked me questions. I supplied him with information and received my first draft. I opened it up and just sat back in my chair staring at my computer. I felt like all the hard work I had done through the years was honored and seen. Then it was put into succinct order.
As I read through it, I could feel myself coming to life and realizing I have a lot to offer. I became excited about how I might contribute to a new work environment. I could even see how my skills and experience could translate into new fields I had never worked in before.
Most of all I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders as I imagined being able to click send after putting together my cover letter, knowing that my new resume was a true representation of my background. I felt proud of my accomplishments.
Doug is easy to work with, efficient, kind and considerate and very professional.” — Kate E.
P.S. Kate’s new résumé got her an interview, which led to a job offer.
